Buying a wood-fired hot tub – what matters most?

A wood-fired hot tub is a deliberate choice for a slower pace, deeper relaxation, and meaningful time spent outdoors.

Before investing, it is important to consider the full picture: the size, shape, heater type, insert materials, and other details that matter in a long-term purchase. Our guide will help you make a better-informed choice.

Relaxation, wellness and personal value

Warm water naturally helps create a feeling of calm and comfort. It offers something very different from simply sitting on the sofa after work

Personal relaxation

Time with friends and family

Fun for kids

A hot tub can serve very different purposes during the week and at the weekend. When friends come over or the family gets together, it becomes a place to spend time together.

Without screens and everyday noise, real conversations happen more easily, relationships grow stronger, and memories are created that often become the most meaningful part of the investment.

Hot tub and children

We honestly recommend giving children and adults separate time in the hot tub whenever possible. Otherwise, adults may end up spending more time wiping water off their face than relaxing 🙂

No screens

When several children are in the hot tub, they don't need screens or any additional entertainment.

Perfect for birthday parties

Perfect for children's birthday parties and gatherings with several families.

All day fun

Lots of laughter, splashing, and maybe even a bit of diving.

Note: Children should always be supervised by an adult and must never be left unattended in or around the hot tub.

How to choose the right hot tub?

Here are the key points worth understanding and comparing before you buy

Traditional wooden tub or modern hot tub?

Traditional Nordic hot tubs are round and usually come without jets or LED lighting. The focus is on hot water, quiet time, and sitting together.

Some older Nordic models are made entirely of wood, and the water is drained and refilled each time because there is no filtration system.

Gardenvity offers only modern hot tubs with traditional wood-fired heating. Models are available in round or square shapes, and the seating is always ergonomically designed for comfort.

Wood-fired heating can also be combined with electric temperature maintenance, massage features, lighting, and a filtration system.

Round or square?

Round hot tubs are best suited to shared use and spending time together. They usually do not have clearly defined individual seats, with the massage jet positions loosely shaping where each person sits. If your aim is simply to relax and talk, there is no need to switch the jets on.

They also fit easily into most backyard settings.

Square hot tubs have a more modern look, closer to the jacuzzi style many people know. They also give you more legroom inside the tub.

The corner design allows for more effective massage placement, and some models include a lounger, creating a balance between a classic hot tub and a more massage-focused model.

Integrated stove or external stove?

An integrated stove saves space in the backyard and makes the hot tub look more compact.

You can choose a model where the stove uses part of the inner tub space and creates a raised seating area, or choose the Horizon stove, which keeps the interior flat.

The main advantage of an external stove is that it gives you more choice in power output, although it does take up more space.

In the long term, an external stove is also easier to upgrade or replace, and the connection is straightforward.

🔥 Heating time: approx. 2 hours

Verta, 30kW

🔥 Heating time: approx. 2 hours

The Verta heater is a relatively new design on the market. Its main advantage is the larger window, which gives a wider view of the flame. The glass technology also helps prevent it from becoming smoky too quickly, so it stays clearer for longer.

Space saving

The main advantage of this solution is that it saves space in the garden while still providing enough heating power.

Raised seating area

Some people see the raised seating area as a drawback, while others find it very practical.

Best for all

Although it changes the usual seating layout, it is ideal as a place to cool down and refresh yourself.

The picture shows the version with a 180 cm inner diameter, which seats 4–6 people.

When we say 4–6 people, we mean that 4 adults can sit very comfortably, with space for up to 2 children as well — although this is the maximum. When it comes to children, though, they somehow always manage to make room for more. 🙂

Modern Look

Square hot tubs are closer in style to the jacuzzi look many people know, while offering a more modern design.

Better Massage Zones

More effective massage systems can be built into the corners, combining classic hot tub use with a more focused massage experience.

Lounger Benefits

The lounger also creates more possibilities for neck and leg massage, making the hot tub more versatile.

Insert choice: Acrylic or fibreglass?

Traditional all-wood hot tubs have largely been replaced by models with fibreglass or acrylic inserts

The main advantages of acrylic and fibreglass:

Smooth surface

Ergonomic seating

Easy to clean

Compared to acrylic, fibreglass surfaces may be slightly more prone to fine scratches. This is normal for this type of material and does not affect comfort or everyday use. Depending on the colour or gloss level, one surface may also appear to scratch less than another, but this is often simply due to the way light reflects off it.

Acrylic inserts are more costly to produce, while fibreglass inserts are generally less expensive

Fiberglass & Osmosis

Fibreglass used to be more closely associated with osmosis issues, but thanks to the use of double protective layers similar to those used in shipbuilding, this is no longer a common problem.

Main Differences

Today, the main difference between fibreglass and acrylic is the choice of colours and finishes. Both materials are available in grey, but acrylic also offers marbled finishes, while fibreglass can have a 3D sparkle effect.

Choosing a colour

For most buyers, the decision is mainly aesthetic — it comes down to which finish and colour you prefer.

Winter-Ready Heating and Filtration

Enjoy the independence of wood-fired heating, added protection from freezing, and a filtration system designed to keep the water cleaner for longer with less maintenance

Key features

Many of our pre-configured models come with Premium filtration as standard, including a built-in 3 kW heater. If you choose a simpler configuration, you can always upgrade and add this feature.

3 kW heater

The wood-fired stove provides natural heating, while the integrated 3 kW heater helps maintain a safe minimum temperature in colder conditions.

Protection against freezing

This combination helps protect the system in winter and keeps the hot tub safer in sub-zero temperatures.

Filtration, Less Maintenance

Premium filtration and effective water circulation help keep the water cleaner for longer, with fewer water changes.
